This tutorial created July 20, 2002 and is the property of Bubbles' PSP 2002. PLease do not remove this tutorial or any part of this tutorial from my site. PSP groups, please feel free to use any of my tutorials for your groups that you wish; I just ask that you share the link to the tutorial and not the tutorial itself.

This tutorial is written at the request of JenniJo. And since Jenni is such a sweet person, I just couldn't refuse her :) This is by no means the only way to make a tag using text on a path, or maybe I should say text on a shape. But this is the way I do it and it works for me. So, JenniJo, are you ready to start??

For this tutorial you will need:

PAINT SHOP PRO

You will also need a tube. The tube I'm using is from Karen's Creations. If you wish to use the same tube that I am using , click here. Karen has some great tubes on her site; be sure to look around while you are there getting a tube.

Alright, let's get started!!

1. Open up your tube in PSP, Shift+D to make a copy of it; close the original as we will be using the copy of your tube. If you are using the same tube as I am, go to Image/Resize and resize your tube by 85%. Effects/Sharpen/Sharpen.

2. Open a new image (File/New) 600w x 600h transparent bkg. I know it's big, but I like a lot of room to work and we will crop and resize it when we are through with our tag.

3. With your tube image active, Edit/Copy; go back to your new image you just created and Edit/Paste as New Layer. You can close out your tube now.

4. Select your shapes tool. Open your tool option box and left click on the arrow to open up your shapes cache. Select the ellipse or circle shape (I use the ellipse since I don't have the circle shape); line width 1; antialias checked; create as vector checked.

5. Set your background color to null and foreground color doesn't matter for right now. Draw a circle around your tube as big as you want it, but remember to leave room for your text. Below is my example.

6. Select your dropper tool and pick two colors from your tube to use in your text. I'm using #782E51 for the foreground color and #DD405B for the background color. Layers/New Raster Layer. Select your text tool. Now place your cursor on your cirle. You should see an A with a semi-circle under it and crosshairs above it. Left click to bring up your text box. Select the font you want to use for your text. I'm using Boink LET size 64; floating and antialias checked. Your text size may vary depending on what font you use. *NOTE* See the three little squares with lines on them under where it says Auto Kern? One box shows the text aligned to the left; one shows the text aligned in the center; the other has the text aligned to the right. If you want your text aligned on your circle in the middle click on the middle square otherwise your text will be aligned either to the left or right of the circle.

7. Click okay on your text box and your text should appear as the sample below. Do not deselect.

8.Let's apply an inner bevel to our text. Effects/3D Effects/Inner Bevel using the settings shown below.

9. We will apply a drop shadow is a little bit. For now go to Selections/Select None. Open your layer palette; now, see the layer that has the + by it? Left click on the plus sign and another layer will appear below that layer. (See examples below)

10. Make your ellipse layer your active layer and click on your glasses to hide that layer. Now go to the layer above that, should be layer 3, right click and select delete. Your circle is now gone from your image and your vector layer has been deleted. Below is what your layer palette should look like.

11. Your text and your tube image are on separate layers, so if you need to do any moving around do it now. I chose to move my tube down just a little and center it some more. When you have your text around your image like you want it, go to Layers/Merge/Merge Visible. Now, let's add a drop shadow. Effects/3D Effects/Drop Shadow using the settings below: Opacity 100; Blur 2.5; Vertical 1; Horizontal 1.

12. Effects/3D Effects/Drop Shadow using the settings shown below: Opacity 70; Blur 7.4; Vertical 2; Horizontal 4.

13. Click on your selection tool (rectangle, feather 0) and draw a rectangle around your tube and text; Image/Crop to Selection. Make sure you don't cut away any of your drop shadow. Resize to desired size; I resized mine by 50%. Effects/Sharpen/Sharpen. Layers/Merge/Merge All (flatten) and save in desired format. That's it!!

If you want to add a bkg to your tag to match your website, just go to Layers/New Raster Layer; then Layers/Arrange/Send to Bottom. Floodfill with your pattern/color, merge all layers, and save.

Here is another example but with my name written three times in the text box at size 52 using Tinker Toy for the font.

Below is Jenni Jo's results of the tutorial. Fantastic job Jenni, and thank you so much for testing the tutorial for me.
